BreakAsunder

“Is not this rather the fast that I have chosen? Loose the bands of wickedness, undo the bundles that oppress, let them that are broken go free, and break asunder every burden.” – Isaiah 58:6

What are the things that keep you up at night? What commands your attention throughout the day so that you you cannot be present in the moment? What burdens you? The season of Lent is about less. Whether we realize it or not, we almost always have a choice in what bundles, breaks, chains, and burdens us, weighing us down. We may or may not be able to control how we got into a difficult situation, but we can always control how we respond to it. Are you responding by allowing God’s grace to permeate every area of your life or are you doubtful of His promise?

During this time of Lent maybe we can all adopt one of Blessed Mother Teresa’s favorite quotes from St. Augustine: “Pray as though everything depended on God. Work as though everything depended on you.” How can you offer up the things that keep you bound to God, but then actively work in your life to break free of them and no longer be weighed down. God gives what we need in order to accomplish this difficult task, but sometimes we forget to look at our own hands, mind, and spirituality to successfully be set free. God does provide, but He doesn’t always do the work for you. What can you do this Lent to Break Asunder?
