Lent Day 9 – Seek

by gary-foote on March 13, 2014

Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. – Matthew 7:7-12

This scripture verse can bring both great hope as well as great worry. As children of God, we hope in the promise made here by Jesus that our Heavenly Father will provide for all of our needs. We want to be given what we ask for, we want to find what we are looking for, we want to knock and have the door opened for us. But, this scripture is not just about the promise, we have to look at who is making the promise too.

It’s easy to trust the promises that are being made, but trusting the person who is supposed to fulfill the promise is a whole different issue. Are you afraid of asking God for what you need without reservation because He might not provide what you are asking for? Are you fearful to seek because you may not find anything? Do you pretend to knock on the door by mimicking the motion, but in reality not even get close enough to the door to touch it, let along make a sound by knocking on it?

God’s promises are all true. Do you trust Him enough to fulfill them? Can you be honest enough with yourself to admit whether or not you are really asking, seeking, and knocking expecting God to be faithful rather than just telling yourself that you are doing these things? God calls us unto Him, how we will respond? He has asked for our trust, will you give it you Him? He has sought you out, will you allow Him to find you? He is knocking on the door to your heart, will you answer it?

What if over these next few weeks of Lent we truly trusted the promisor and not just the promises? How would our lives look different, radically transformed, on Easter morning? There is only one way to know for sure…. Are you up for the challenge?
